Lease Car of the Year renamed Alphabet Mobility Awards
Alphabet also announces the shortlisted vehicles in the various categories
Aartselaar, 21 February 2020 - Mobility provider Alphabet has announced that the 28th Lease Car of the Year awards, a high-profile event in the leasing industry, will henceforth be known as the Alphabet Mobility Awards. The event will take place on 23 April in Nekkerhallen, Mechelen. In view of users’ evolving mobility needs and the broader portfolio of mobility solutions offered by Alphabet, the company felt that the time had come to adapt the awards concept. Besides an award for lease cars, which includes plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, categories have now been added for electric bikes and speed pedelecs. During the event, three start-ups that take an innovative approach to mobility will also present their business case. They are all shortlisted for the Prize for Innovation.
Evolving mobility needs
The name change is in line with Alphabet’s vision on mobility, which centres on users’ needs. As such, Alphabet supplies the right solution, which benefits the user and the employer and is in line with these needs. This may include a lease car with optimum emission levels, a lease bike, or a multimodal solution. The latter is based on a mobility card combining various mobility solutions that are tailored to the user’s needs, to get him or her from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible.
“At Alphabet, we start by looking at the user’s mobility requirements, tailoring our offer accordingly. We provide solutions for mobility requirements, from 1 minute to 5 years. Our offer includes the traditional lease car and lease bicycles as well as solutions for corporate shared mobility, such as AlphaCity, and multimodal solutions, such as AlphaFlex, that offer an answer to our customers’ demand for a mobility budget”, says Erik Swerts, Managing Director Alphabet Belgium.
Shortlist of nominees
Today, the jury of the Alphabet Mobility Awards, consisting of professionals and trade journalists, published its shortlist in the various categories. The separate category for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles has been dropped. The range of cars in this category is continually evolving, which is why they are now included as a full-fledged alternative in every category.
The shortlist is being published today and includes the following:
Economy
- Ford Puma
- Peugeot 208
- Peugeot 2008
Business
- BMW 1 Series
- Skoda Octavia
- Volkswagen Golf
Business+
- BMW X1 PHEV
- Ford Kuga
- Skoda Superb PHEV

“We have noticed an interesting evolution in the nominees in each of the categories.
